New Medium-Voltage Quad-SCR Trigger Board Targets Multiple Devices Sharing a Single Firing Command; Provides Fiber Optic Signal Isolation

GOLETA, CA - February 11, 2008 - Enerpro, Inc., a leading manufacturer of power electronics control products, announces its new Medium-Voltage Four-Device Trigger Board (MV4TB). Created in response to the industry's move toward increased control at higher voltage levels, the MV4TB is a compact and reliable solution for thyristor-based systems that require enhanced hard DC gate firing and complete electrical isolation from the control system. The MV4TB can drive an array of four SCRs operating at voltages up to 6000 VAC (referenced to the board's control side ground)-an especially advantageous feature for systems where devices must share a single firing command (its four outputs are individually transformer-isolated to 4160 VAC).

The board provides hard-fire gating with a 2A sub-microsecond rise time on the initial pulse, and sustaining 0.5A, while accommodating fiber distances to 50 yards. The 3.0 KV thyristor-to-thyristor isolation makes the MV4TB suitable for use with thyristors with the highest available blocking voltage (7.5 KV). The board's 6.0 KV output isolation allows it to gate thyristors in 4.16 KV applications while powered directly from a ground referenced 24 VAC or 30 VDC source. With the addition of one or more isolated 30 VDC bias supplies, the MV4TB can fire thyristors at voltages limited only by the rating of the bias supply.

The MV4TB includes three-way galvanic voltage isolation, including standard HP Fiber Optic Links for unlimited gate-to-computer isolation, transformer-coupled DC/DC converter for 6 KV thyristor gate-to-control power isolation and 3 KV thyristor-to-thyristor isolation, and an optional transformer-coupled DC/DC converter for 33 KV gate-to-control power isolation. Applications include medium voltage (4.2 KV) AC transfer switches, series-connected SCR strings, large power supplies and circuits using paralleled or redundant devices.

Additional features include single-channel command input, matched four-channel gate current outputs, and more. The compact MV4TB panel mount board measures just 8.66" on a side (220mm) and 1.38" high (35mm).
