LCAP Abutment Preventer
An abutment occurs when the end of the cranking motor pinion gear tooth strikes the flat surface between the teeth of the flywheel ring gear and the teeth do not engage.
The Locomotive Cranking Abutment Preventer (LCAP) provides positive rotation of the starter motor pinion gear prior to flywheel engagement which prevents a sticking abutment. If standard maintenance procedures due not cure your locomotive starter abutment problem, installation of the LCAP will completely prevent abutment and the resultant dead won’t start event.
The 10 3/4” long, 7 3/4” wide, 3” high module is easily installed in the engine compartment with rugged Wago press lock connections. One module connects to both starter motors. This simple solution has proven to cure the most difficult abutment cases.
